What Is Recovery Like After an Arm Lift?

An arm lift is a simple cosmetic procedure performed to remove the excess fat under the upper arms and reshape them to bring about tighter and smoother contours. The procedure is perfectly safe when performed by a skilled cosmetic doctor, and comes with a brief downtime. If you have undergone an arm lift or are about to get the treatment, and want to know what the recovery is like post-op, this article is the perfect read for you.

On the Day of The Procedure

  • An arm lift surgery takes about 2-3 hours, and you can go home after resting for a while. However, you will need someone to take you home since the procedure will be performed under general anesthesia.
  • Your incisions will be covered with a medical dressing, and you will be advised to get a compression garment that will minimize swelling.

During the First Week

  • You will need to stick to your follow-up visits with your cosmetic surgeon. He will monitor your healing progress and provide additional instructions if required. If surgical drains are inserted to drain out extra fluids after the surgery, it will be removed during this time.
  • You will experience mild bruising and swelling the first week following the treatment, but these can be easily treated with antibiotics.

The Following Weeks

  • You will be required to stay off from work for a week or two, after which you can return to your normal activities.
  • For the first month, you should not lift your arms above your shoulder level.
  • Avoid strenuous physical activities, especially weightlifting, for two months following the surgery. Your surgical incisions should not be put under any kind of pressure.

Consult your doctor regarding any concerns you may have about the arm lift procedure.
